BATH MIND NAMED LOCAL CHARITY FOR 2020 BATH HALF RACE

The official local charity for the Bath Half Marathon has been announced as Bath Mind. The Bath based mental health charity supports anyone affected by mental ill health living in BANES and is looking for 100 runners to pledge their support and run the Bath Half on its behalf.

Bath Mind was established in 1998, by a group of local people lived experience of mental ill health and wanted to provide information and activities for people in the community. Since then, it has provided support services with local people at its heart and are now in contact with over 3,400 people annually to improve and maintain mental health and wellbeing.

Fundraising and Training Manager, Hannah Roper of Bath Mind said “Whilst we are affiliated to national Mind, we receive no direct funding from them therefore, we are delighted and very proud to be the chosen local lead charity for the Bath Half 2020. The money raised will help continue the vital work of our Get Set To Go project which aims to improve the quality of life for anyone with a mental health problem through access to sport and physical activity in the local community.”

“Mental health is a topical issue and unfortunately is a growing epidemic. This partnership with Bath Half will help us tackle the ongoing stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness and help us promote a positive culture regarding mental health and wellbeing.”

Kayley Waller, Charity Director of Bath Half said “Bath Mind has been involved with the race for the past 8 years and we are delighted to be able to help them raise awareness and give them additional fundraising support by naming them as our official local charity.  Mental health is an important issue that affects many families throughout the UK.

We know one of the key benefits of running is the positive impact it can have on improving mental health and overall wellbeing so naming Bath Mind as our local charity just felt like a natural fit for us. If you are still feeling undecided about running the Bath Half I would urge you to consider running on behalf of this great local cause, in doing so you will make a huge positive impact on others as well as yourself, by taking on the challenge.”

The 2020 Bath Half Marathon will take place on 15th March 2020. Entries to the race are now open and registration can be completed online www.bathhalf.co.uk. If you would like to register to run for Bath Mind simply go to the registration page and chose Bath Mind as the charity you wish to fundraise for as part of the registration process.
