Bath Prepares to Welcome Tour of Britain with Cycle Trail

Business across Bath are being asked to take part in a brightly coloured cycle trail across the city to celebrate Bath as a cycle-friendly city and to welcome the arrival of the Tour of Britain when it finishes a stage of its tour in Bath on Thursday 8 September.

The cycle trail is being organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council and will involve up to 30 businesses displaying static bicycles at their premises. A bicycle trail map showing the locations of all the bicycles will be produced to encourage both local residents and visitors to find them and tick them off, whilst exploring all parts of the City

Bath & North East Somerset Council will provide the bicycles and is working in partnership with Julian House Bike Workshop and the Princes Trust who will be painting the bicycles red, white and blue!. Bicycles will be provided free of charge on a first come first served basis to businesses that are able to display them securely at their premises, make them visible to the public, and agree for their business to be indicated on the Bicycle Trail Map. The bicycles will be on display for three weeks from 18th August, until after the Tour of Britain, which comes to Bath on Thursday 8 September and are expected to attract a good deal of public interest.

Councillor Martin Veal, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “I encourage businesses, especially our independents, from cafes to financial and legal services, as well as our visitor attractions, to take part and help us create a fun cycle trail that will not only welcome the Tour of Britain riders, but which also helps us communicate that Bath welcomes cyclists and is a great city to visit by bike, irrespective of the historic constraints of the streets. We are initially looking for 30 businesses to agree to take part, but I anticipate that others will follow suit and dress their premises with bicycle themed decorations.”
