Bulky waste collections restart in Bath and North East Somerset

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s bulky waste collections are restarting after a temporary pause due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

From Monday 20 April the council will reopen bookings with an increased number of slots than normally available, to help residents manage their large waste items while recycling centres are closed.

Slots can be booked up to a week in advance and the normal collection charges apply.

Collections will begin from Wednesday 22 April.

Councillor David Wood, cabinet member for Climate Emergency and Neighbourhood Services, said: “There is a lot of pressure on councils across the country in these challenging times, so I’m pleased that we are already able to reinstate one of our priority services. Currently we are unable to safely open our recycling centres and comply with social distancing instructions, so the bulky waste collections will help people to manage this type of waste while the centres remain closed.

“Please bear with us if there is high demand. Our teams are working hard to deliver the best service they can within the constraints we have.”

Bulky waste items include fridge freezers, sofas, mattresses, furniture, or up to two black sacks of smaller items. The maximum number of items that can be collected is 10.

Crews cannot enter properties so the items must be left outside the front of the property for collection.
