Roman Baths Named Uk’s Seventh Best-Rated Landmark in 2018 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards

Bath’s Roman Baths has today been named as the seventh best-rated landmark in the UK in the Travellers’ Choice TM awards for Landmarks, announced by the travel planning and booking site, TripAdvisor.

The UNESCO-listed Roman Baths, a well-preserved ancient bathing spa, sit alongside London’s Westminster Abbey and Liverpool’s Cavern Club in the UK top ten.

Travellers’ Choice Landmarks awards honour top landmarks worldwide based on the millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

“It’s fantastic to see the Roman Baths – one of Bath’s iconic sights – holding its own alongside some of the UK’s world-renowned sights, like Big Ben and the Tower of London. As demand for these winning landmarks soar during peak seasons, travellers planning a visit should book their tours ahead on TripAdvisor to avoid disappointment,” commented TripAdvisor spokesperson, Hayley Coleman.

David James, Chief Executive of Visit Bath says; “The Roman Baths is one of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world and one of the finest historic sites in Europe - we are delighted that it has been named 7th in TripAdvisor’s Landmarks Awards for 2018!. Wandering around the atmospheric Great Bath as the steam rises above the spa water is one of the most remarkable experiences you can enjoy in our city.”

London leads as capital boasts six of the UK’s best-rated landmarks

London continues to lead the way in the UK, with six landmarks cracking the top ten – the capital also nabbed the top three spots for the third year in a row. Tower of London takes the top spot followed by Tower Bridge in second. Last year’s winner Big Ben dropped to third spot, as the sight undergoes essential works. Westminster Abbey came in sixth place, while Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral take ninth and tenth position, respectively.

Angkor Wat is world’s #1 landmark for two years in a row

Cambodia’s Angkor Wat has again been named the world’s best-rated landmark, making it the second year running the historic sight in Asia has topped the list.

Located in Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is a temple complex, which was originally constructed in the early 12th century as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire. Towards the end of the 12th century the temple gradually transformed into the Buddhist temple it is today. Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world, measuring an impressive 402 acres.
