Let's Talk
The Grapes Bath
Located at 14 Westgate Street, Bath, The Grapes is housed in one of the city's few remaining Elizabethan townhouses.
Originally built for affluent patrons visiting the Roman baths, the building has been an inn since at least 1694 and took on the name “The Grapes” by the late 18th century—first recorded in 1792.
The Grapes has earned a reputation as one of Bath’s most charming bars and is cherished for its quirky, friendly atmosphere, free from beer-pong and gaming machines.
Inside, the bar offers an eclectic, locally focused drink selection: craft beers, ciders, ales, spirits (especially locally distilled gin and vodka), and even wine on tap. These are often sourced directly from regional producers, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
Events are central to its appeal - from Jazz and Trad Folk sessions during the week to vinyl Dj’s at the weekends and live acts on Sunday afternoons.
Go up the stairs to Pocock’s Living Room and you’re almost in a different space entirely. Not an extension to the bar, the living room is used for a variety of reasons from parties, life drawing and community meetings, training and workshop, as well as band practise to a number of Bath’s musicians and a place for our overnight guests to enjoy and relax the rest of the time.
Unlike the bar that has been described as eclectic and maybe even a little punk, the living room is a Jacobean space that reminds you of the former Elizabethan townhouse this building originally was, except now with three bright, large Georgian windows.
