REVIEW: Lunch at Emma's Bar, Restaurant & Cafe at DoubleTree by Hilton Bath City

"It was a delightful visit: perfect, although much too short “ Jane Austin

Emma's Restaurant is situated in the beautiful and newly refurbished DoubleTree by Hilton Bath City Hotel, which is centrally located on Walcot Street.

We visited on a Saturday lunch time. On arrival we were filled with awe, the restaurant has been refurbished to an excellent standard and the decor is stunning.

Modern, unique, elegant with an air of lavishness, the space offers a range of contemporary areas making it the perfect venue for intimate dining, business meetings, family gatherings, or large parties.

There is a beautiful cocktail bar area and restaurant with large windows overlooking the famous Putney Bridge and the River Avon, leading through to a delightful and rather magical Secret Garden dining area with outdoor seating also available.

The lighting and design provides an informal setting to unwind in style but with a special ambience which is suitable for those special occasions and fits all dining experiences, which the menu reflects.

We were greeted by the courteous staff who offered us a choice of areas to sit, and we soaked up the relaxed atmosphere whilst we perused the menu. Our cutlery came individually paper wrapped and all sanitation has clearly been taken very seriously.

The menu offers a great selection of sharing platters, varied selection of main meals, sides and desserts with afternoon tea also available, and an extensive drinks menu offering a range of cocktails, mocktails, wines and soft drinks.

The menu offers real value for money and left us eagerly anticipating our sharing platter. After much deliberation we opted for the Fish Platter from a tempting choice of Meat Platters, Charcuterie, Cheese,Veg, Bread and Dessert platters.

We added a few sides of mac and cheese, thick cut chips and onion rings to accompany the main course.

The menu offers a choice of chef wine pairings to accompany the platters, our recommendation being Kleine Zalze Blanc from South Africa “great with spices and compliments lightly spiced fish dishes”. Perfect!

Our generous platter included calamari with aioli, devilled whitebait with homemade tartar sauce, Asian crab cakes and garlic and chorizo king prawns beautifully presented and garnished on a two-tier stand. The side dishes offered significant portions.

The fish platter is an explosion of tastes and flavoursome, slightly fiery, savoury, crispy, fresh, and seasoned perfectly. A real delicious food platter. The side dish of mac & cheese was rich, creamy, gooey, and simply delicious. Accompanied by crispy thick cut chips this was a heavenly meal.

The staff could not have been more attentive, outstanding customer service. The food really is sensational.

Emma's Restaurant excels in offering a full enhanced dining experience for the city of Bath. A delicious meal in a great atmosphere. We will definitely be returning. Thank you to the Doubletree by Hilton Bath City.
