We recommend
Take a look below at our list of things to do in Bath this Summer:
1. Ride
Bath has some excellent cycle tracks, some maintained by the national cycle network providers Sustrans allowing you to see the city, or get out of the city. Travel the 2 tunnels (a disused railway track with tunnels, one being a mile long) and head for the countryside. This route has a slight incline. Or take the old railway the other way to Bristol passing through a maintained steam railway station at Bitton (this route is flat). There are pubs on both routes for rehydrating and the countryside views are excellent.
2. Sit
Enjoy a sunny afternoon in Royal Victoria Park with the view of the Royal Crescent to keep you occupied. Or on warm early evenings head further into this local’s favourite park to watch the Hot Air Balloons taking off. Sydney Gardens, Alexandra Park and the Parade Gardens, all central all offer somewhere beautiful to sit and take in the views too.
3. Walk
Walk the beautiful National Trust Skyline Walk and take in the best views of the city. This signposted route takes in views of Prior Park, famously landscaped by Capability Brown. Or take in Peter Gabriel’s Solsbury Hill a short bus/car journey out of town, warning, this is steep! And the Cotswold way starts (or ends) at Bath Abbey and takes you right across Bath and heads out towards Bath racecourse.
4. Float
Take a barge along the Kennett and Avon Canal to Bradford on Avon, an idyllic stretch of water that has plenty to see and is worth the pub side stop at your destination. Or take one of several Bathwater taxi’s from the famous Pulteney Bridge along the scenic River Avon out to Bathampton, where you’ll find more hostelries!
5. Listen
Grab a free tour of Bath with the Mayoral Guides who are volunteer guides enlisted to share the history of the city. This one’s on foot. If you prefer there are several city tour providers that can show you the sights by open-top bus.
6. Look
Of course, you must see the Royal Crescent and The Circus on your first trip to Bath! Actually, we’d advise you do that on every trip to Bath. We challenge you to not notice something different every time to take in these architectural icons. But don’t stop there, as many of the cities museums have galleries you can view for free; try the Victoria Art Gallery and Holburne Museum.
7. Watch
Bath has a wonderful old cinema The Little that offers a diverse range of art-house plus more mainstream cinema as well as kids clubs and events the year-round. Tivoli at Southgate is a cinema with a difference, offering up-market food and drinks in style and comfort whilst you watch the latest blockbuster. Bath also has a well-used Odeon cinema too.
8. Bathe
Bath is famous for its hot springs. Taking the waters has been part of the bath story since the Romans. A trip to Thermae Bath Spa will complete your trip and give you some much needed time out. The new wellness suite has something for everyone, and the rooftop pool is really very special.
