Women's Spring/Summer Fashion '14

Emily Griffin gives us the low-down on the key trends you'll need to keep your eye out for this spring/summer.

Although it’s still grey and miserable outside, spring 2014 brings us an abundance of sugary new looks.

The big trend is pastel; the hue is your choice. With a springtime palette of Parma violet, pistachio and baby pink you really have just about every shade covered.

This season also saw the reappearance of some past trends. Christopher Kane showed us the return of the ‘slogan sweater’, whilst designers such as Christian Dior and Alice + Olivia showcase an array of 50’s inspired tea length skirts.

Here are some top tips for your spring wardrobe:

If you’re going to wear a skirt, wear it tea length. This faltering hemline will keep your look fresh and elegant. The tea length skirt is one of blogger Stephanie Dreams’ favourite looks for this season; "Midi and Tea length skirts are just what we all need for a pretty spring outfit - they'll take you right into summer too. I adore how lady like and pretty they are…”

If you're looking to integrate print into your wardrobe, then opt for floral - as flower power takes over yet another season. This was another key trend showcased by designers such as Mathew Williamson and John Rocha in their spring collections.  The bolder the better and, if you are feeling adventurous, you can tune it up with a matching two piece.

Spring jackets are kept cropped and embellished. This makes them the perfect accessory as the weather gets warmer. Stephanie adds; "Cropped jackets are going to be perfect to bring you into springtime, and linking in England, we need a jacket or two in our wardrobes! The jackets are perfect for layering and teaming with trousers, body-con dresses, office skirts or even your trusty jeans".

If you want a sharper look then opt for a tailored suit, trousers are wide and skirts pleated. We also see monochrome take another turn on the runways for some sports-luxe inspired sophistication.
